For this assignment I was to choose a photo of a landscape that I took and paint it. I ended up choosing a picture that I took while I was at Topsial Island. I've never painted before so the whole process was new to me. I learned that painting the whole canvas orange makes the color that you put on after more rich. I really liked doing this because, for me, painting on a white canvas is extremely intimidating so making it orange to begin with really helped me to become more open to the idea of painting. I've used paintbrushes before but never to paint on a canvas. Because I've used paintbrushes before and it is a familiar tool to me, it was a lot easier for me to get the hang of painting.
I asked multiple students for their opinion and useful feedback as I was working on this project. I felt as if it was important for me to do this because I wanted to make sure that other people liked it and if not, how could I fix it. My neighbor at the table I sit with helped me understand very important information during my work process. I was always confused on what primary colors to mix to make other colors. The student not only told me what to mix but also helped me remember the color weel. (Probably because she was annoyed of me asking)
The majority of the problems I faced where due to mixing the wrong colors. It was extremely difficult for me to mix the correct colors to make sand. When I first did it I ended up running out of the color before I could finish. When I tried to make the same color it ended up being a different shade than the color I was using before. I kept mixing and mixing until I got the perfect color again. When I finally did get the right color, I made sure I had enough of it so I wouldn't run out again. My work never did take an unexpected turn. That's most likely due to the fact that I planned out everything before I put it down permanitly just to make sure that nothing would dramatically change if I messed up.
