There were multiple challenges that occurred as I was working on my clay tile. Many of the of them had to do with the fact that I cut to much clay our or I cut the wrong part out. These challenges that I faced were very simple fixes. Because we were working with clay I could easily just add more clay to the title and fill in the spaces that I didn't mean to cut out or the places that I made and mistake so I could just cover it up. My work never took an unexpected turn due to a mistake because I always had an easy way to fix it. Whatever problem I seemed to run into, I fixed it the same way everytime. By filling it with clay.
During this project I never physically stepped back to analyze my work. I figured if we're working with clay and I messed up, it wouldn't be that hard to fix it. And it wasn't. I also never really considered how my ideas would work before I tried them. I usually don't do this but for this specific project I thought I would just go with it because how bad could I really mess it up? As I look back on it, I realize that it probably would have been for the best if I did step back and analyze. I think the real reason as to why I did this was because it was the end of the year and I was somewhat giving up on my work. I don't really regret it though because I think it ended up pretty good.
I learned lots of new unique techniques and processes because I've never worked with clay before. I learned the whole process of created a clay tile and having to put it in the kiln. I learned the technique of having to hollow out the thick pieces of clay because if you didn't it would explode. I definitely gained skill from this project but not with familiar tools. I gained the skill of making a clay tile and sculpting things. I was not familiar with any of the tools that I used to make this project though.
